Tesla vehicles come equipped with the ability to give you a broad range of alerts as they detect information about their systems. In some cases, these alerts pertain to the safety systems of your vehicle.

This article will dive into the most common safety-related Tesla alerts, what they mean, and how you can resolve them.

1. UI_a004 - Front Trunk Open - Proceed With Caution

This alert triggers when your vehicle senses that your front trunk is open and/or not properly latched. In most cases, you can resolve this alert by ensuring that your front trunk is closed. To do so, use both hands (one on either side of the Tesla “T” on the hood) and firmly press down until you hear the latch activate.

If your front trunk is properly closed and this alert appears, it may signal an issue with the front trunk latch. In this case, schedule a remote diagnostic to identify potential issues and form a repair plan.

2. DI_a166 - Vehicle Automatically Parked to Prevent Rollaway - Fasten Seatbelt and Close Door to Stay in Gear

When this alert triggers, your vehicle will automatically park itself because it has determined that the driver is either leaving, no longer present in the vehicle, not wearing a seatbelt, or has left the driver door open.

The vehicle will only shift into park if your vehicle is travelling at 1.4 mph or less and the last driver activity was detected more than 2 seconds previously.

To resolve this alert, ensure your seatbelt is fastened, the driver door is closed, and you are firmly positioned in the driver seat.

If all these conditions are met and the alert is still present, your vehicle may require service. Schedule a remote diagnostic to identify the cause of the alert.

3. DI_a245 - Vehicle Hold Feature Unavailable - Keep Brake Pedal Pressed While Stopped

This alert will present if the Vehicle Hold feature cannot be performed due to system constraints. You will need to use your brake pedal and press down firmly to stop your vehicle.

Your Tesla is still OK to drive. If the alert shows up again on your next drive, and/or persists across multiple drives, you may need a remote diagnostic to identify any underlying issues that may be triggering the alert.

4. VCSEC_a221 - Air Pressure Below Recommendation for Tires - Check Pressure and Refill Air as Needed

This alert presents when the air pressure in one or more of your tires is too low based on the pressure recommendations found on the driver door label.

You are most likely to see this alert as temperatures become cooler - in low temperatures, air condenses, causing the pressure in your tires to drop. Remember to always keep your tires at the recommended cold tire pressure in winter weather.

This alert does not necessarily mean you have a flat tire, but it does mean you should navigate to an air pump and check your tire pressures. Ensure they are all at recommended levels, and add air as needed to any tires running low.

You can also check the service tab of your Tesla’s vehicle menu to see the specific tire pressures of each tire.

Once complete, the alert will resolve during your next drive.

5. VCSEC_a228 - Air Pressure in Tires Very Low - PULL OVER SAFELY - Check for Flat Tire

This alert triggers when your Tesla detects that the tire pressure in one or more tires is too low. If you see this alert on-screen, pull over safely and inspect your tires.

If you note any damage, or a flat tire, secure roadside assistance. If your tires are at the appropriate pressures as per your driver-door label, this alert may indicate an issue with the tire pressure sensors.

In such cases, schedule service to identify and resolve the concern.
